The Map of Your Book

If you want to write a book, you are in the right place.

Here you find out what you actually need to know: where your project stands, what it really takes, and what your next step is — with the price on screen, no meeting required to learn it.

Start writing your book here Eleven questions, so I understand where you are and where you want to get to · free, four minutes

Every day I receive dozens of messages from people who dream of writing and publishing a book. Almost all of them begin with the same question: how? And almost none of them know that the answer depends on a number of things that have to be planned with an editorial and commercial eye.

That is why we built this page: so you can see a little of what goes on behind the scenes of writing and producing a book. That way your dream stops being only a dream and becomes a professional project — one we will give everything to deliver.

Where you are

You are probably in one of these six situations

Each one leads down a different path, with a different level of investment. The worst mistake an author can make is taking the wrong path because nobody told them other paths existed — and it is precisely in that range that Rio Books works, to find which one delivers what you actually want.

How publishing with Rio works, and what each step costs

Publishing a book properly is an investment. We do not hide that, and we do not let you discover it three meetings in. What exists is a staircase, and you step on at the point that fits you. That is why the map is free: so we can work out exactly where you come in, without wasting your time or your money.

What Rio does — and what Rio does not do

We do

  • We edit, proofread, design and produce the whole book
  • We distribute in 96 countries and more than 44,500 points of sale
  • We write it for you, under strict confidentiality, when that is the right route
  • We leave 100% of royalties with the author
  • We return full intellectual property — the work is yours
  • We say so when we think the book is not ready yet
  • And when we say it, we take the text up to the professional standard publication demands

We do not

  • We do not sell the Rio imprint on its own — it follows editorial acceptance
  • We do not promise sales, prizes, fame or bestseller lists
  • We do not publish any text at any price
  • We do not hide costs to reveal them after you sign
  • We do not hand you to an account manager: I am the one who replies
  • We do not deliver a book made by a machine

Who is on the other side

Ten years, five continents, and a publisher that does not work alone

We are one of the few international publishers taking Portuguese-language authors into English and Spanish. We have sold rights to Netflix and Warner Bros. Sandro Vitta is a writer and journalist, author of eight books of his own and of more than two hundred written for other people as a ghostwriter.

Our imprints serve different readerships and genres, and Rio Books is a member of the bodies that govern the book trade in Europe and the United Kingdom.

Method

How we work

What sets us apart is not avoiding technology. It is not being defined by it.

Rio Books uses artificial intelligence in parts of the editorial process, and that gives the author three things: more consistency, fewer errors, and a price a traditional publisher cannot match. What technology does not do here is decide. Every text passes through human hands — most often Sandro Vitta's, with twenty years in the trade and more than 250 authors published — and through trusted specialists where the work needs a second pair of eyes, such as translation, final proofreading and cover design.

The machine makes it faster. The editing, the choices and the responsibility are human.

A path of its own

What if what you want to write is not exactly a book? Have you considered that?

Some of the people who come to me do not need a published book. They need to tell their own story to someone who genuinely listens, and to understand what it means. That is a different thing, and it has a name.

The Narrative Clarity Session came out of more than two hundred lives I listened to in full in order to write them. Two hours of listening, a map of your story written by me, and a closing session. It is not therapy, not coaching, not an interview — nothing is published.

Before you ask

Frequently asked questions

Does Rio Books pay to publish my book?
In most cases, no — and it is worth understanding why. In the model where the publisher carries every cost, it has to recover that investment: the author typically receives 5% to 10% of the cover price, gives up creative control, and waits around twelve months. In Rio's model, the author invests in production and keeps 100% of royalties and the work itself. Both are legitimate routes with different costs — one charges in money, the other in rights. Rio does fund a small number of titles in full each year, by editorial decision after reading the manuscript.
Can I just buy the Rio Books imprint?
No. The imprint is not a service, it is an endorsement — it means the work went through our editorial process and that we stand behind it. Selling it separately would hollow out what it means for every author on the list, including you. Books we produce for publication on the author's own account carry no imprint, and the contract says so plainly.
So what does it cost to publish?
Full production runs from £897 to £4,997 depending on scope, across four fixed packages. What changes between them is the level of editing, the kind of cover, the number of copies, and whether translation, audiobook or a launch is included. But you do not need to decide that now: the map shows the step you are on today, and it is almost never production.
Do you use artificial intelligence?
We do, in parts of the process, and we say so openly. It is what lets us deliver faster and charge less than a traditional publisher. What we do not do is deliver a book made by a machine: every text goes through human editing, most often Sandro's own. The "How we work" section on this page explains it in detail.
I am not in the UK. Can you still publish my book?
Yes. Rio Books is registered in England and Wales and distributes to 96 countries. We work in English, Portuguese and Spanish, and we publish authors living anywhere. Prices on this page are in pounds sterling; if you are in Brazil or Portugal, tell us your country in the map and we will quote in the currency that makes sense for you.
How long does it take?
From approved manuscript to publication, between 30 and 90 days depending on the package. If the text does not exist yet, the timeline depends on the route — mentoring, consultancy or ghostwriting — and is set out in the Executive Document before any production contract is signed.
Is my text protected?
Yes. A confidentiality agreement covers every project, and intellectual property remains entirely yours, from the first email to the published book.
